What are the visa & residency requirements in Lyon?

"To apply for a visa to stay in Lyon for more than 90 days, it is necessary to apply for a long-stay visa at a consulate or embassy of France. The documents required for the application include a valid passport or travel document, the residence permit application form with three photographs, proof of accommodation, proof of financial independence and of health insurance. Additional documents may be requested depending on the type of visa. To apply for residency in Lyon, France, the applicant should submit a copy of his/her valid passport, proof of accommodation and a certificate of enrollment in an institute of higher education. They will also be required to provide a report on criminal history, proof of a bank account and proof of fiscal residence. The application will be reviewed within two to three months, and if accepted, the residence permit will be issued. The residence permit is usually valid for one year but can be extended," commented one expat who made the move to Lyon, France.
