What do I need to know before moving to England?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to England, they said:

"I would advise all corporate expatriates to ensure that a sufficient housing allowance is included in their package to provide them with a home similar to the style of living they are living in at home. For other expatriates on their way over who are not on a corporate transfer I would make sure that they do their research and get ready to accept living in at least 1/2 if not 1/4 of the space they are used to having. You can do a lot of research over the internet but you should also give yourself two weeks - one months time to search for your home sweet home," remarked one expat who made the move to Abingdon.

"It is important to research the cost of living and living arrangements before moving to England, as rent and other expenses tend to be higher than other countries. Also take into consideration the size of cities and towns to make sure you pick the best location to fit your lifestyle and preferences. Since England is part of the European Union, you will need a valid visa/work permit to live and work in the country. Lastly, familiarize yourself with the culture and customs of England, including the language, so you can easily adjust to your new home," explained one expat living in UK.
