What do I need to know before moving to Kiribati?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Kiribati, they said:

"Kiribati is a remote island nation located in the central Pacific Ocean. It is composed of 33 atolls and islands, and is the only country in the world to span all four hemispheres. The official language is English, but the local language is Gilbertese. The currency is the Australian dollar. The climate is tropical and humid, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. The main religion is Christianity, and the main industries are fishing and tourism. Expats should be aware that the cost of living is high, and that medical facilities are limited. It is important to obtain a valid visa before travelling to Kiribati," explained one expat living in Kiribati.
