"Before retiring in Taipei, expats should familiarize themselves with the local language, Mandarin Chinese. It is also important to research the cost of living in Taipei, as it is generally more expensive than other parts of Taiwan. Additionally, expats should research the healthcare system in Taiwan, as it is different from other countries. It is also important to research the visa requirements for expats, as they may need to obtain a residence permit in order to stay in Taiwan for an extended period of time. Finally, expats should research the cultural norms and customs of Taiwan, as they may be different from their home country," wrote a member in Taipei.
