What do I need to know about living in Singapore?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Singapore, they said:

"Before retiring in Singapore, expats should be aware of the cost of living, which is generally higher than in many other countries. It is important to research the different types of visas available and the associated requirements, as well as the taxation system. Additionally, expats should familiarize themselves with the healthcare system and the availability of medical insurance. It is also important to consider the cultural differences between Singapore and the expat's home country, and to research the different neighborhoods and areas to find the best fit for their lifestyle. Finally, expats should be aware of the language barrier, as English is the main language spoken in Singapore, but other languages are also spoken," said one expat in Singapore.

"Try to negotiate a good expat package here - including generous housing, medical and school fees. These items are all exensive and can make the difference between making the posting worthwhile financially. Once you're here, try to live below your means. It's easy to live the high life and there's lots to spend your money on. Many expats leave with nothing to show for the time they spent here," said one expat who made the move to Singapore.
