What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Monteverde?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Monteverde about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Costa Rica. The country has a universal healthcare system, but many expats also choose to have private insurance. You should research and decide what would be the best option for your family. Secondly, you should find a good local doctor or midwife who can guide you through the process of having a baby in Costa Rica. They can provide you with valuable advice and support during your pregnancy and after the birth of your baby. Thirdly, you should learn about the local customs and traditions related to childbirth. This can help you to better understand and navigate the process of having a baby in Monteverde. Fourthly, you should consider taking Spanish language classes if you are not already fluent. While many doctors and healthcare professionals in Costa Rica speak English, not all do, and being able to communicate in Spanish can make the process easier. Fifthly, you should prepare for the possibility of a home birth. While hospitals in Costa Rica are equipped to handle births, some expats choose to have their babies at home. Lastly, you should connect with other expats who have had babies in Monteverde. They can provide you with firsthand advice and support, and may be able to recommend doctors, midwives, or other resources," commented one expat who made the move to Monteverde , Costa Rica.
