What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Diego Martin. They wrote...
"Expats in Diego Martin often find the local dialect challenging to understand, as it is a unique blend of English, Spanish, French, and African languages. The laid-back, 'island time' attitude can also be difficult for expats used to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. The high crime rate, particularly related to drugs and gang violence, can be a significant concern for expats. The local cuisine, while delicious, can be quite spicy and may take some getting used to. The hot and humid climate can also be a challenge for those not accustomed to tropical weather. Lastly, navigating the local bureaucracy can be a challenge, as it can be slow and inefficient," wrote a member who made the move to Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago.
