What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Exuma. They wrote...
"Expats in Exuma often find the slower pace of life challenging, as the local culture values relaxation and leisure over the hustle and bustle of city life. The island time concept can be frustrating for those used to punctuality and strict schedules. Language can also be a challenge, as while English is the official language, the local dialect can be difficult to understand at first. Additionally, the limited availability of goods and services can be a struggle for some expats. Many items need to be imported and can be expensive or take a long time to arrive. The isolation of the island can also be challenging for some, as it can be difficult to travel to other places, and the options for entertainment and social activities are limited compared to larger cities. Lastly, adjusting to the local cuisine can be a challenge for some expats, as Bahamian food is quite different from what many Westerners are used to," wrote a member who made the move to Exuma, Bahamas.
