What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Montanita. They wrote...
"Expats in Montanita often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The laid-back, "mañana" (tomorrow) attitude can also be a challenge for those used to a more fast-paced, punctual lifestyle. The local cuisine, while delicious, can be a drastic change for some, and adjusting to it can be difficult. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they might be used to from their home countries can also be a challenge. Additionally, understanding and navigating the local customs and etiquette can be a steep learning curve for many expats. Lastly, dealing with the local bureaucracy for things like visas and permits can be a frustrating and time-consuming process," commented one expat who made the move to Montanita, Ecuador.
