What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Sorrento. They wrote...
"Expats in Sorrento often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and communication can be difficult. They also struggle with the slower pace of life, which is a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of many Western countries. The Italian concept of time, often referred to as "Italian time", where punctuality is not as strictly adhered to, can be frustrating for those used to more rigid schedules. Additionally, the bureaucracy in Italy can be quite complex and difficult to navigate, especially for those who are not fluent in Italian. The cultural emphasis on social connections and networking, while beneficial in many ways, can also be challenging for expats who are new to the area and have not yet established these connections. Lastly, while the Italian cuisine is world-renowned, the lack of variety in food can be a challenge for some expats," said a member in Sorrento, Italy.
