What do I need to know before retiring in Granada?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Granada, they said...

"Before retiring in Granada, expats should be aware of the cost of living, which is generally lower than in the United States. It is important to research the availability of healthcare services and the quality of care. Additionally, expats should be aware of the local culture and customs, and be prepared to learn some Spanish. It is also important to research the local climate and the availability of recreational activities. Finally, expats should be aware of the local laws and regulations, and ensure that they are in compliance with them," remarked another expat who made the move to Granada, Nicaragua.

"Always live in your chosen location for 6 months to a year before settling down or buying any property. Nicaragua has everything from hot, humid weather to beachfront to cool mountain living. What do you want? Learn the culture and language is part of the culture. English is not widely spoken here outside the expat community. Expect frustrations. This is their country and we are the guests. The rules are different and you are the minority," explained one expat living in Granada, Nicaragua.
