Croatia has joined the growing list of countries offering dedicated visas for digital nomads, allowing remote workers to reside in the country for an extended period. Here’s how to obtain a digital nomad visa for Croatia.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for Croatia’s digital nomad visa, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Work remotely for a company registered abroad or own a company registered abroad.
  • Demonstrate a consistent monthly income.
  • Have valid health insurance covering the territory of Croatia.
  • Pass a background check with no criminal record.

Application Process

The application process involves several steps, which can be completed at a Croatian embassy or consulate abroad, or at a local police station if already in Croatia.

Step 1: Gather Required Documents

Prepare the following documents for your application:

  • Valid passport and a copy of the passport’s main pages.
  • Completed application form (available online).
  • Proof of remote work (employment contract, statement from employer, or company registration documents if self-employed).
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements showing consistent income).
  • Health insurance policy covering the territory of Croatia.
  • Criminal background check from your home country or country of residence.
  • Proof of accommodation in Croatia (rental agreement, hotel booking, etc.).

Step 2: Submit the Application

Submit your application and the required documents at the nearest Croatian embassy or consulate. If you are already in Croatia, you can apply at a local police station with a foreigners' department (Policijska uprava).

Step 3: Await Approval

Processing times may vary, so it’s essential to apply well in advance. Once approved, you will receive a temporary residence permit valid for up to one year, with the possibility of renewal.

Fees and Other Considerations

The visa application fee is subject to change, so it’s advisable to check the current fee on the official websites. Additionally, digital nomads should be aware of tax obligations and ensure they comply with Croatian tax laws during their stay.

Renewal of Digital Nomad Visa

The digital nomad visa can be renewed for an additional year, provided the applicant continues to meet the eligibility requirements. The renewal process is similar to the initial application and should be initiated before the current permit expires.
