Corniglia is a small village in the Liguria region of Italy, best known as one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre. It sits on a rocky hillside above the Ligurian Sea, giving it a distinctive perched position compared with the other nearby settlements. The village is compact and quiet, with narrow lanes, stone buildings, and terraces that reflect the traditional character of the area. Because it is set above the coast rather than directly on the water, Corniglia has a more secluded feel and a slower pace than many Italian seaside destinations. Its setting is strongly shaped by steep slopes, vineyard terraces, and views over the surrounding coastline, making it especially scenic. The village is small enough that daily life feels intimate and local, with a focus on walking, small shops, and hospitality for visitors. Corniglia is also closely associated with the agricultural landscape of the Cinque Terre, where terraced hillsides have long supported grape growing and other cultivation. Its elevated location and limited size give it a peaceful atmosphere, while still placing it within one of Italy's most visited coastal areas.
