Ragusa is a stunning baroque city located in southeastern Sicily, Italy, renowned for its exceptional architectural heritage and dramatic hilltop setting. Built on a ridge overlooking the Val di Noto, Ragusa captivates visitors with its golden-hued limestone buildings and elegant piazzas that showcase the finest examples of Sicilian Baroque style. The city is divided into two distinct areas: Ragusa Ibla, the charming lower town with winding medieval streets and historic churches, and Ragusa Superiore, the planned upper town with a more organized grid layout. The Cathedral of San Giorgio dominates the skyline with its impressive staircase and neoclassical facade, serving as a focal point for both residents and tourists. Ragusa's rich cultural scene includes museums, galleries, and vibrant local traditions that reflect centuries of Sicilian history. The surrounding countryside features rolling hills, vineyards, and traditional stone villages characteristic of the Val di Noto region. The city offers an authentic Sicilian experience with excellent local cuisine, traditional crafts, and a welcoming community that maintains strong cultural roots.
