Real Estate in Ghana

By Joshua Wood, LPC

Last updated on Feb 04, 2024

Summary: An expat looking to buy a home in Ghana should start by researching the local real estate market. They should look for reputable real estate agents and brokers who can help them find the right property. It is also important to research the local laws and regulations regarding foreign ownership of property in Ghana. Foreigners are allowed to own property in Ghana, but there are certain restrictions. For example, foreigners are not allowed to own land in Ghana, but they can own buildings and other structures. Additionally, foreigners must obtain permission from the Ghanaian government before they can purchase a property. Houses in Ghana typically include basic amenities such as running water, electricity, and sanitation. Many homes also have air conditioning, security systems, and other modern amenities. Depending on the location and price range, some homes may also include swimming pools, gardens, and other luxury features.

How do I find a place to live in Ghana?

We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One way to find a place to live in Ghana is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Jumia House, Tonaton, and meQasa are popular platforms for finding rental properties in Ghana. Additionally, you can also search for rental listings on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, you can also contact local real estate agents who can help you find a suitable place to live in Ghana. Lastly, you can also ask friends and family who live in Ghana for recommendations," said one person in Ghana.
