Real Estate in Haiti
Last updated on Dec 16, 2023
Summary: An expat looking to buy a home in Haiti should begin by researching the local real estate market and contacting a reputable real estate agent. It is also important to research the local laws and regulations regarding foreign ownership of property. Houses in Haiti typically include basic amenities such as running water, electricity, and a kitchen. Many homes also have outdoor spaces such as gardens and patios. Foreigners are allowed to own property in Haiti, but there are certain restrictions. For example, foreigners are not allowed to own land in certain areas, such as near the coast or in certain protected areas. Additionally, foreigners must obtain permission from the Haitian government before purchasing property.
How do I find a place to live in Haiti?
We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:
"One way to find a place to live in Haiti is to contact a local real estate agent or property management company. They can provide you with information about available rental properties in the area and can help you find a place that meets your needs. Additionally, you can search online for rental listings in Haiti, or ask friends and family who live in the country for recommendations. Finally, you can also look for rental postings in local newspapers or on bulletin boards in public places," said one person in Haiti.
