What do I need to know before moving to Managua?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Managua, they said:

"Managua is the capital of Nicaragua and is a vibrant city with a unique culture. Expats should be aware that the city is prone to earthquakes and other natural disasters, so it is important to be prepared. Expats should also be aware that the cost of living in Managua is relatively low, but the quality of life can be lower than in other cities. Additionally, the city has a tropical climate with high temperatures and humidity, so expats should be prepared for hot weather. Finally, expats should be aware that the city has a high crime rate, so it is important to take safety precautions," remarked one expat who made the move to Managua.
