What do I need to know about living in Armenia?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Armenia, they said:

"Expats considering retirement in Armenia should be aware of several key factors. Firstly, the cost of living is relatively low compared to many Western countries, making it an attractive option for those on a fixed income. However, it's important to note that healthcare may not be up to the standards that expats from developed countries are accustomed to. While Colombia has a national healthcare system, the quality of care can vary, and private health insurance is recommended. The language spoken in Armenia is Spanish, so it would be beneficial to learn the language or at least basic phrases to help with day-to-day living. Armenia is known for its warm and welcoming locals, but like any place, it has areas that are safer than others, so it's important to research and choose your living situation carefully. The city is part of the coffee region, so it's a great place for coffee lovers and those who enjoy a slower pace of life. Public transportation is widely available in Armenia, but it may not be as reliable or comfortable as what expats are used to. Owning a car can be expensive due to high import taxes. Finally, while Colombia has made great strides in improving safety and stability, it's important for expats to stay informed about the political situation. It's also worth noting that while the climate in Armenia is generally mild, it can be quite rainy, so appropriate clothing and housing considerations are necessary," remarked one expat who made the move to Armenia.
