What do I need to know before moving to Esztergom?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Esztergom, they said:

"Esztergom is a small city with a rich history, known for its stunning architecture, including the largest cathedral in Hungary. The official language is Hungarian, which can be difficult to learn, but English is also widely spoken, especially by younger people and in tourist areas. The cost of living in Esztergom is relatively low compared to other European cities, making it an affordable place to live. The city has a continental climate, with cold winters and warm summers. Public transportation in Esztergom is reliable and affordable, with buses being the primary mode of transport. The city is also very walkable, with most amenities and attractions within walking distance. Hungarian cuisine is hearty and flavorful, with dishes like goulash and chicken paprikash being popular. The city has a variety of restaurants and cafes, offering both local and international cuisine. Esztergom has a slower pace of life compared to larger cities, making it a great place for those looking for a more relaxed lifestyle. The city is safe, with low crime rates, but it's always important to take standard precautions, especially at night. Healthcare in Hungary is of a high standard, with both public and private options available. It's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any medical costs. The city has a vibrant cultural scene, with numerous festivals, concerts, and events taking place throughout the year. The locals are generally friendly and welcoming to foreigners, but learning some basic Hungarian phrases can go a long way in making connections. Esztergom is also in close proximity to Budapest, Hungary's capital, making it easy to travel for more entertainment and shopping options. Lastly, it's important to note that Hungary is part of the European Union, so EU citizens can move and work freely in the country, while non-EU citizens will need to secure a visa and work permit," wrote a member in Esztergom.
