What do I need to know before moving to Szentendre?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Szentendre, they said:

"Szentendre is a small town located in Pest County, Hungary, known for its museums, galleries, and artists. The official language is Hungarian, which can be challenging to learn, but English is also widely spoken, especially among younger generations and in tourist areas. The cost of living in Szentendre is generally lower than in the capital city of Budapest, but it's still higher than in many other parts of Hungary. The town has a Mediterranean feel with its narrow, winding streets, colorful houses, and numerous churches, making it a popular destination for tourists. Szentendre has a rich history and is home to many ethnic groups, including Serbs, Germans, Slovaks, and Greeks, which is reflected in its diverse architecture and culture. The town is well-connected to Budapest by public transportation, with regular bus and train services, as well as a river ferry in the summer. Szentendre has a continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters, so appropriate clothing is necessary depending on the time of year. The town is famous for its art scene, with numerous galleries, workshops, and art festivals taking place throughout the year. Szentendre is also known for its culinary scene, with many restaurants offering traditional Hungarian dishes as well as international cuisine. The healthcare system in Hungary is of a good standard, and there are several healthcare facilities in Szentendre, but it's advisable to have comprehensive health insurance. The town is generally safe, but like anywhere, it's important to take basic precautions to protect yourself and your belongings. Szentendre offers a range of housing options, from traditional houses to modern apartments, but it's advisable to use a reputable real estate agent to help navigate the property market. The town has several schools, including an international school, making it a suitable place for expats with children. Finally, it's important to understand and respect the local customs and traditions to integrate well into the local community," said one expat in Szentendre.
