What do I need to know about living in Yeosu?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Yeosu, they said:
"Expats considering retirement in Yeosu should be aware of several factors. Firstly, they should have a basic understanding of the Korean language as English is not widely spoken in Yeosu. They should also be prepared for a high cost of living, especially in terms of housing and healthcare. The healthcare system in Korea is excellent but can be expensive, so it's important to have comprehensive health insurance. The climate in Yeosu is relatively mild, with four distinct seasons, but winters can be quite cold. The city is known for its seafood and beautiful coastal scenery, but it's less bustling and cosmopolitan than cities like Seoul or Busan. Public transportation is reliable and efficient, but having a car can be more convenient for exploring the surrounding areas. Korean culture places a strong emphasis on respect for elders, so retirees are generally treated well. However, it's important to familiarize oneself with Korean customs and etiquette to avoid any cultural misunderstandings. Finally, while Yeosu is a safe city, it's always important to be aware of one's surroundings and take standard precautions to protect personal safety and belongings," said one expat in Yeosu.
