What do I need to know about living in Vientiane?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Vientiane, they said:

"Things here run very differently. It's slow and has to be done a certain way. It's best to go with the flow. Come here with an open mind and you should be ok! Don't expect much of a nightlife as there isn't one," said one expat in Vientiane.

"Expats considering retiring in Vientiane should be aware that the cost of living is relatively low compared to other countries in the region. It is important to research the visa requirements for long-term stays in Laos, as well as the availability of healthcare and other services. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the cultural norms and customs of the country, as well as the language, in order to ensure a smooth transition. Finally, expats should be aware of the political situation in Laos, as it can affect their ability to stay in the country," said one expat who made the move to Vientiane.
