Summary: The state of Penang is a made up of two parts, Penang Island and Seberang Perai. Penang Island lies in the Strait of Malacca just off the northwest coast of peninsular Malay. Seberang Perai is on peninsular Malay. With a population of approximately 1.8 million people, Penang is a vibrant and diverse state with a rich cultural heritage. With close to 800,000 residents, George Town is Penang's biggest city and is located on Penang Island. Expats love living in Penang for its beautiful beaches, delicious food, relatively low cost of living and friendly locals. The weather in Penang is hot and humid. The weather in Penang is typically hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 75-90 degrees Fahrenheit. The average cost of living in Penang for an expat is around $1,000-$1,500 USD per month. The cost of a one bedroom apartment is around $500-$700 USD per month, and a two bedroom apartment is around $700-$1,000 USD per month.

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Penang, they said:

"Before retiring in Penang, expats should be aware of the cost of living, which is generally lower than in other parts of the world. It is important to research the local healthcare system and ensure that adequate medical coverage is in place. Additionally, expats should familiarize themselves with the local culture and customs, as well as the language, to ensure a smooth transition. It is also important to research the local job market and the availability of recreational activities. Finally, expats should ensure that they have the necessary visas and permits to live and work in Penang," commented one expat who made the move to Penang.
