What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Windhoek. They wrote...

"Expats in Windhoek often find the language barrier to be one of the most challenging aspects of the local culture. English is widely spoken, but the majority of the population speaks Afrikaans or one of the local languages. Additionally, the cultural norms and expectations can be difficult to navigate for those who are not familiar with them. For example, Namibians tend to be quite formal in their interactions, and it is important to be respectful and courteous when interacting with locals. Additionally, the local cuisine can be quite different from what expats are used to, and it can take some time to adjust to the flavors and ingredients," remarked another expat who made the move to Windhoek, Namibia.
