What should I pack when moving to Manila?

Answer this Question

We asked people living in Manila to list three things they wish they had brought and three they wish they had left behind. They responded...

"When moving to Manila, it is important to pack items that will help you adjust to the climate and culture. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing that is appropriate for the hot and humid weather. Bring a few items of clothing that can be layered for cooler evenings. Bring a good pair of walking shoes, as well as sandals or flip-flops for the beach. Pack a few items of clothing that are appropriate for more formal occasions. Bring a few items of toiletries, such as sunscreen, insect repellent, and a first-aid kit. Don't forget to bring a few items of entertainment, such as books, music, and movies. Finally, make sure to bring any necessary documents, such as your passport and visa," said another expat in Manila, Philippines.

"Brought: 1. My Quit Smoking Chewing Gum - you can't buy it locally so I have to have it shipped over. 2. More little Australian themed presents to give away as pasalubong to different people. 3. Large stocks of my favourite deoderant - you get pretty sweaty and I don't like the local flavours Left: 1. My laptop - they are cheaper there 2. Most clothes except for suits 3. My sense of irony - earnest is the go," wrote a member who made the move to Manila, Philippines.
