As a foreigner living in Makati City, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Makati City if they have access to public healthcare in Makati City. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in Makati City, you will have access to public healthcare, but it's important to note that the quality and efficiency of services can vary. The public healthcare system in the Philippines is a mix of public and private providers. Public hospitals and clinics are generally less expensive than private ones, but they can also be crowded and have longer wait times. The quality of care in public hospitals can be good, but it is often inconsistent. Some public hospitals in major cities like Makati are well-equipped and staffed with competent doctors. However, they may lack the latest medical technology and equipment found in private hospitals. In terms of health insurance, the Philippines has a national health insurance program called PhilHealth. However, as a foreigner, you may not be eligible for this unless you are a permanent resident or are working in the country. Many foreigners living in the Philippines choose to get private health insurance, which can give them access to private hospitals and clinics that often offer a higher standard of care. Private healthcare in Makati City is generally of a high standard, with many hospitals offering state-of-the-art facilities and English-speaking staff. In conclusion, while you will have access to public healthcare in Makati City, it may be beneficial to consider private health insurance for more comprehensive coverage and access to private hospitals. It's also recommended to have a good understanding of the healthcare system and to seek advice from others who have navigated it before," wrote a member who made the move to Makati City, Philippines.
