Le Lavandou

Beach   Coastal   Beaches

Le Lavandou sits on the Côte d'Azur between Saint-Tropez and Bormes-les-Mimosas, a working fishing village that has resisted becoming a full-blown resort despite its proximity to celebrity havens. The harbor still fills with small boats and nets most mornings, and the waterfront cafés cater as much to locals as tourists. Twelve beaches curve along the shoreline—some sandy and sheltered, others rockier and wilder—each with its own character and crowd level. The old town climbs inland with narrow streets, a modest market, and restaurants where bouillabaisse and grilled fish dominate the menus. Pine and cork oak forests back the coast, and hiking trails connect Le Lavandou to quieter coves and the Îles d'Hyères offshore. The pace is slower than nearby Sainte-Maxime or Port Grimaud; families and retirees outnumber the yacht set. Summer brings crowds, but shoulder seasons feel genuinely Mediterranean rather than theme-park crowded.
