What do I need to know before moving to Clearwater Bay?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Clearwater Bay, they said:

"Clearwater Bay is a popular residential area for expats in Hong Kong, known for its beautiful beaches, hiking trails, and relaxed lifestyle. It is located in the New Territories, which is a more rural and less crowded part of Hong Kong. The cost of living in Clearwater Bay can be quite high, with housing being the most significant expense. Most expats live in private houses, townhouses, or low-rise apartments, many of which offer stunning sea views. Public transportation in Clearwater Bay is reliable and efficient, with regular bus and minibus services connecting the area to other parts of Hong Kong. However, many expats choose to drive, and parking spaces are generally available. The area is home to several international schools, making it a popular choice for families. These schools often have long waiting lists, so it's advisable to apply as early as possible. While Clearwater Bay has a few local shops and restaurants, it doesn't have the same variety or number of amenities as more urban areas of Hong Kong. However, larger shopping centers are just a short drive away. The area is known for its outdoor activities, including hiking, golfing, and water sports. The Clearwater Bay Country Park and Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club are popular spots for recreation. While English is widely spoken in Hong Kong, learning some basic Cantonese phrases can be helpful. Healthcare in Hong Kong is of a high standard, but it can be expensive. It's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance. Hong Kong has a high level of safety compared to other major cities, but it's still important to take standard precautions to protect yourself and your belongings. Lastly, Hong Kong's climate is subtropical, leading to hot and humid summers and mild, dry winters. Typhoons can occur between May and November, so it's important to be prepared for these weather events," wrote one member in Clearwater Bay.
