What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Oracabessa. They wrote...
"Expats in Oracabessa often find the local dialect, Patois, challenging to understand and learn, as it is a unique blend of English, African, and other languages. The laid-back and relaxed pace of life, known as "Jamaican time", can also be a challenge for those used to more punctual and structured schedules. The high levels of poverty and crime can be shocking and difficult to adjust to for expats from more affluent or safer countries. Additionally, the local cuisine, while delicious, can be quite spicy and may not suit everyone's palate. Lastly, the heat and humidity of the tropical climate can be uncomfortable for those not used to such weather conditions," wrote a member who made the move to Oracabessa, Jamaica.
