What do I need to know before moving to Afghanistan?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Afghanistan, they said...

"Afghanistan is a very challenging place and there is a high security risk due to the ongoing conflict. Make sure you research the security situation thoroughly and understand the government or private security measures you may need to take. It's also important to be aware of the common contagious diseases and strongly recommended to get vaccinated prior to arrival. Make sure to bring ample supplies of any necessary medications with you and to always drink boiled or bottled water. Local customs, language, and culture should also be considered and it may be beneficial to consider taking culturally sensitive classes before your move. Finally, access to healthcare and other services may be limited in Afghanistan, so it is advisable to research potential options for medical and other services before your move," said another expat in Afghanistan.
